Chocolate Ghost Growing Kit

The Chocolate Ghost Growing Kit will give you a cross between two other hot peppers - the Bhut Jolokia (original Ghost pepper) and the Douglah.  These peppers are HOT!  Ghost peppers are known for their delayed heat.  First, you will taste the sweet, citrusy, subtly smoky flavor.  Then in about 30 seconds, you will start to realize the heat.  You could experience the heat of this pepper for up to 30 minutes after eating it.  It is dubbed “Chocolate” due to its dark brown hue.  It’s such a hot pepper that some regions of India use it to deter elephants from going into villages and planted fields.  Even though it is hot, it is often used to help relieve pain and inflammation in Ayurvedic medicine.

Details

The Chocolate Ghost pepper is grown in northern India.  It easily tops a million on the Scoville Heat Unit scale.  It didn’t make it into the Western cuisines until around 2008.  They can be difficult to find in open markets.  It’s best to use this hot pepper sparingly.  It can be added to sauces, marinades, soups and stews to add flavor and heat.
