Datil Pepper (Capsicum Chinense): Hot, Fragrant, and Tasty. The yummiest cooking pepper! The flavor is unique, and unlike any other pepper. Cultivated in the St. Augustine, Florida area since the 1700’s, it grows best outdoors in a fairly humid environment, but can be grown indoors most anywhere. There is much divisiveness on the origin of this pepper. Some say it was brought from Minorca by the Minorcans who settled in new Smyrna, others say it originated in Cuba or South America. 100,000 to 300,000 Scoville Heat Units. Yellow when ripe. Excellent when used in cooking, made into hot sauces, added to mustards and BBQ sauces. Freezes well with no loss of flavor.
